One Health Talks

To face the challenge of discussing One Health in less than 60 minutes, we continued the 1st cycle of monthly ICBAS talks on February 22.

In the fifth session, Paula Ferreira, Associate Professor at ICBAS, invites Margarida Correia Neves, Full Professor of Immunology and Microbiology at the School of Medicine of the University of Minho, and researcher at the Institute for Research in Life and Health Sciences (ICVS), to discuss the topic ‘In Govuro (Mozambique) people interact with animals with tuberculosis. How to study the impact on their health?' within the scope of One Health.

The event will take place from 1pm-1.50pm at ICBAS/FFUP Library (different location than usual)

One Health PhD Forum

The One Health PhD Forum will be held at ICBAS on 13 June 2024. It is a 1-day scientific meeting in which any PhD student enrolled in an ICBAS-UP Doctoral Programme is invited to participate.

The main objective of the meeting is to promote the exchange of scientific knowledge from a One Health perspective, among all the participants. The program includes 2 keynote lectures related to relevant topics of broad interest to everyone.

PhD students can submit his/her work in the area of One Health*, to be presented in oral presentation or virtual poster format. The best presentation and the best poster will be awarded with a travel grant.

**Registration and Abstract submission are now closed**

Any member of the ICBAS community can attend this event. Registration is not required.

In the fourth session, António Araújo, guest Full Professor and Director of the Integrated Masters in Medicine at ICBAS, invites Joana Simões, Medical Oncology Assistant at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Santo António, to discuss the topic ‘The impact of hormones on the development of cancer', within the scope of the One Health.

The event will take place from 1pm-1.50pm in monobloc 4 of ICBAS.

In the third session João Mesquita, Assistant Professor at ICBAS, invites Ana Machado, invited assistant professor at ICBAS, to discuss the topic The One Health vision in diarrheal disease in Africa within the scope of the talks about One Health.

The event will take place from 1pm-1.50pm in monoblok 5 of ICBAS.

In the second session, Adriano A. Bordalo e Sá, Professor at ICBAS, invites Joana Savva Bordalo e Sá, Oncologist at IPO-Porto, with experience in medical assistance in Africa, India and a Palestinian Refugee Camp, to discuss the topic Water, conflicts and refugees within the scope of the 'One Health Talks' Cycle.

The event will take place from 1pm-1.50pm in ICBAS monoblock 1.

Expo One Health

This year the Porto One Health Day is celebrated at ICBAS on 2, 3 and 4 November.

Visitors will be able to perform practical activities and interact with specialists from various areas of health (Environment, Medicine, and Veterinary, among others). 

In addition to the 25 stands, the Expo One Health will also feature sessions that aim to expose the One Health approach from different points of view.

The event is for the whole family and entry is free. Access to ICBAS (floor 4) can be via the main entrance – Rua de Jorge Viterbo Ferreira 228 – or via Rua Dom Manuel II (4050-313 Porto).

Photography Exhibition ‘Perspective(s) on One Health’ at Alcochete City Hall

This is a selection of images that portray the integrated vision of Health that ICBAS has been promoting. It is a result of the homonymous photography contest that took place in March and April 2022.

The photography contest 'Perspective(s) on One Health' intended to promote the dissemination of the concept in the U. Porto academic community. Around 250 images were received, of which ICBAS, together with the Portuguese Institute of Photography (IPF), a partner in this project, selected 20 for a traveling exhibition which could be visited in several places in the city of Porto.

The exhibition can now be visited, for the first time, outside Porto, at the Municipal Gallery of Alcochete City Council, between April 6 and 27, 2023 (Paços do Concelho – Largo de São João 5 – Alcochete). Free entrance.

This exhibition is an opportunity to promote a joint reflection on the One Health concept, as well as to alert civil society to the impact we all have on the health of humans, animals and the environment.

2nd Porto One Health Day

International One Health Day at ICBAS

No próximo dia 3 de novembro, Dia Internacional Uma Saúde, o Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) da Universidade do Porto vai voltar a reunir especialistas das mais variadas áreas e instituições do país para promover o debate em torno de uma abordagem holística da Saúde.

Este ano, com um programa mais direcionado para a comunidade não científica, o 2nd Porto One Health Day reflete o esforço que a instituição tem vindo a fazer para promover e difundir o conceito One Health/Uma Saúde entre a comunidade científica, académica e a sociedade civil.

As comemorações terminam com a inauguração da exposição ‘Perspetiva(s) sobre Uma Saúde’, na Estação de Metro dos Aliados, às 18h45.

The exhibition can be visited now at Centro Português de Fotografia (CPF), between October 3rd and 30th (Antiga Cadeia e Tribunal da Relação do Porto, Largo Amor da Perdição, 4050-008 Porto). Entrance is free.

This exhibition is an opportunity to promote a joint reflection on the One Health concept, as well as to alert civil society to the impact we all have on human, animal and environmental health.
